Aim of study: The productivity poplar plantations in Mediterranean climates might be reduced due to lower precipitations a climate change scenario. Therefore, understanding the water consumption these is essential for their management. objective this study was estimate and preliminary crop coefficients (kc) two universally used clones (Populus x Canadensis ‘I-214’ ‘I-488’).Area Central Chile (36º 05 'LS; 72º 47' LW; 470 m.a.s.l.).Materials methods: Commercial stands established 2009 2010 at low density (6×6 m) were experiment during 2016-2017 growing season. In each them, balance measuring, by determining evaporation using micro lysimeters transpiration sap flow. Additionally, status leaf area index (LAI) measured understand behaviour both clones.Main results: Although supplied same, (T) higher ‘I-488’ than ‘I-214’, those moments which evapotranspiration (ETr) vapour pressure deficit (VPD) higher. On other hand, differences observed plant status, had more negative xilematic potential (Ψx) compared ‘I-214’. turn, I-214 proved have Leaf Area Index I-488 grew season, refuting its greater efficiency.Research highlights: These results allow characterizing condition, but it necessary extend seasons different age ranges.Keywords: Crop coefficient; consumption; balance; poplar.
